What the sensor measures
The Inara sensor captures muscle activation from the surface of the skin during contraction. The app turns that signal into practical training feedback so you can see when a target muscle is engaging, fading, or being outworked by another area.
Use the score as a coaching signal rather than a standalone diagnosis. The strongest value comes from comparing the same muscle, placement, exercise, load, and person over time.
Best placement practices
Place the sensor on the belly of the muscle, usually the thickest part that visibly changes shape during contraction. Align the sensor with the direction of the muscle fibers whenever possible.
For large muscles like quads, glutes, hamstrings, and pectorals, use the most prominent part of the target region. For smaller muscles, precision matters more, so check the placement library before the session.
Skin preparation
- Make sure the skin is clean and dry before applying the sensor.
- Trim very hairy areas if contact is inconsistent.
- Avoid lotion, oil, sunscreen, or heavy skin products under the sensor.
- If the client is sweating heavily, dry the area before replacing the sensor.
- Press firmly after placement so contact stays stable through the set.
Getting the cleanest signal
The sensor needs consistent skin contact throughout the movement. Avoid skin folds that shift dramatically, clothing rubbing against the sensor, and loose attachment that lets the sensor move independently of the muscle.
